Ash_Paca_Ttack here, No visuals this time, but thats alright, that means more space for text. So sadly spring break didn't offer as much free time as I was hoping, papers to write, homework to do, but I did get done what I was hoping to. While it is nothing all that exciting for you, the player, it is great news for me, the level editor is made! It ain't too pretty yet, but ideally no one will ever see it. This has been the main progress this month but to do I had to rework a lot of how I was storing and accessing the level data, so a lot of work with not much to show for it. Genma on the other hand has started the new sprites for edge tiles, and let me tell you, there is much to show, you can now clearly see edges and walls and all that important information that wasn't there before. For the next update I'm going to aim to create a level using the editor.... We'll see how it goes.

So it has been quite some time since the last update from me, Ash_to_Paca (don't question it), but I wanted to show some big progress. Once again Genma has been doing a bunch of sprite work and level mock ups. He has also been redoing sprites a bit to make them clearer. How the visuals are set for each level has gone through a few phases, limiting how many tiles Genma could make, but a final decision has been made, and progress can start up again.
As for the game play progress, much has happened there too. I added collisions, an important step, for when you reach a ledge or wall. If you walk into a ledge which only drops one level down, you can jump off. But there is about a second delay in which time a crouching animation plays, giving you time to stop, if you aren't wanting to fall. I also added stairs, it is still a work in progress to make the elevation change smoother, but it works, and is an alternative way to change you elevation. Finally I have made a system for loading/saving levels, allowing the ability to change locations, or more importantly, transition to and from a battle... It'll be added soon enough, don't worry. The wonderful 'Genma' has made many sprites, many sprites indeed, I mean just look at those sprites! But do not fear, for I have started putting them together. Now you can move at 3 speeds! 1 speed, 2 speed, and last and least, 0 speed, in crazy 8 directional movement. But yes, with some basic controls down we move to making the world, and moving around in it...
Hello everyone, welcome to the development blog for the project "Radiant Memories". My name is William "GenmaTheSamurai" Winslow, and I will be the one posting the most here. I am the writer, concept artist, and graphic designer for the project. Glad to meet you. Now, I will open up by saying actual progress on the game itself has not been made yet to my knowledge, HOWEVER, I have been busy at work making character sprites for the game, and will soon begin making tile sprites. I hope you are all looking forward to that. I will also take this time to introduce the protagonist of the game. As progress is made, I will continue to showcase progress on the art side of things.
Right now, I believe I have given my friend and programmer enough assets to begin working on the game. Again, this is VERY early on, so expect a few years before I can officially go into the hype train. :) |
